Portland Remembers September 11th, 2001
PORTLAND, Ore. – The City of Portland on Friday remembered September 11th, 2001.
In a ceremony in Waterfront Park, across the street from Portland Fire and Rescue Station 1, Mayor Keith Wilson said as someone who once called New York City home, the 25th anniversary of the attacks hits especially hard, “I’ve been to New York dozens of times and I could never draw myself to go to Ground Zero. Last month was the first time and I sat there and cried.”
Kris Webb is the Vice President of the Portland Firefighters Association and he renewed a promise, “25 years have passed, but our promise remains the same. We will never forget.”
And Portland Fire Chief Lauren Jackson issued a challenge, “Anyone raising the next generation, whether that’s kids or firefighters, we need to continue telling this story.”
Friday’s remembrance included the PF&R-PFFA Pipes and Drums Band, the PF&R Honor Guard, and a fire boat water display in the Willamette River.
